On September 16, industry leaders convened for a critical executive conference titled, "Microsoft NAV & GP Are Decommissioning: Is Your Organization Ready?". Co-presented by Eric Zhuang of EQTech Solutions and Jon El-Chalouhi of Vision Strategy Group, the session delivered a stark warning to organizations relying on legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems: the time to plan your transition is now, not when the final support deadlines arrive.

According to the presentation, the sunsetting of these platforms introduces severe compliance, operational, and cybersecurity risks. Microsoft Dynamics GP will officially see its product support end on December 31, 2029, with all security patches halting entirely by April 30, 2031. Meanwhile, organizations still running Dynamics NAV are facing immediate pressure, as extended support for the final iteration (NAV 2018) terminates on January 9, 2029. To mitigate these vulnerabilities, the presenters recommended migrating to cloud-based successor platforms, specifically Dynamics 365 Business Central for mid-market organizations or Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management for enterprise-grade needs.

The core thesis of the September 16 summit was that executives must treat this transition not merely as a technical software upgrade, but as a sweeping business transformation. The experts emphasized that a successful migration requires a structured technology modernization journey. This approach begins with a rigorous current-state assessment to identify operational bottlenecks and technical constraints, followed by multi-layered project governance to ensure all technology investments align directly with overarching corporate strategy.

To navigate the implementation without operational disruption, the executive playbook outlines a highly disciplined Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Organizations are urged to establish clear, unambiguous business requirements early in the process and execute rigorous User Acceptance Testing (UAT) using real-life business scenarios rather than generic testing scripts. Controlled data migration protocols are also required to ensure information only moves to production once it is fully cleansed, reconciled, and formally approved.

Furthermore, the speakers highlighted that technology transformations depend just as much on people as they do on systems. Without a robust change management strategy encompassing stakeholder analysis, resistance management, and targeted role-based training, organizations risk low user adoption and reduced return on investment.

As the support windows for NAV and GP rapidly close, proactive planning is no longer optional. View the full conference video and explore the detailed presentation slides at the top of this page to access the complete executive playbook for a seamless ERP transition.
